Scientology and LGBT

The Church of Scientology considers being a part of the LGBT community to mean that you or your loved one are physically ill. And that only through Scientology processing and courses can you become a healthy and happy person. L. Ron Hubbard the founder of Dianetics and Scientology wrote in  
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health that:

"The sexual pervert such as homosexuality, lesbianism, sexual sadism, etc., is actually quite ill physically... he is very far from culpable for his condition, but he is also far from normal and extremely dangerous to society”
 
Hubbard would later go on to classify what he called “Sexual perversion" stating that such an individual was "thus given a score of 1.1" on the Tone Scale (which is pictured below) and is, according to Scientology, a scale of the characterization of human behavior. Hubbard also stated that:

“Such people were skulking cowards who yet contains enough perfidious energy to strike back, but not enough courage ever to give warning." 

Members of the cult who are gay or lesbian are told they need to "handle" their homosexuality through auditing, which will raise them above 1.1 to higher states on the scale.  In other words, Scientology believes in gay therapy. In Scientology, if a homosexual moves above 1.1 on the scale, they'll be happier, and will no longer be gay. 

Michael Pattinson is an ex-member of the Church of Scientology who went to the top of what Scientology calls the "Bridge to Total Freedom" paying the cult almost a half million dollars, after he left the cult he started to speak out against the organization and what it was like to be gay inside the Church of Scientology. 

He was also interviewed by Mark Bunker for his documentary Knowledge Report where he briefly discusses how Scientology claims to be able to "cure" being gay.

The Curious Case of Quentin Hubbard

Despite all of L. Ron Hubbard's hate of the LGBT community his son Quentin Hubbard was gay. After Ron's oldest son Ron Jr. (Ron Dewolf) loudly left the church Quentin was chosen by his father to be his successor, however after a suicide attempt he was put in the Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF), which is Scientology's prison and forced labor camp. He would later be found unconscious in his car by police in Las Vegas on October 28, 1976, without any identifying documents. His father was furious at the news, shouting, "That stupid fucking kid! Look what he's done to me!". An interesting tidbit of information is that although  there had been a hose from the car's window to the tailpipe, a test for carbon monoxide was negative which causes many critics to doubt that he killed himself.
